Hi! My name is Alexander Graham Bell. I was born in Edinburgh, United Kingdom; on March 3,1847,to Elisa Grace Symonds & Alexander Melville Bell. I had two brothers, Melville James Bell & Edward Charles Bell. I was known as "Aleck" to family & friends. I added "Graham" to my name later.
I was home-schooled until I was 11. I also had 1 year of formal education in a private school , following which I attended Edinburgh’s Royal High School for four years. I enjoyed science, but did not do well academically.
Although my schoolwork was poor, my mind was very active. One day, I was playing at a flour mill owned by the family of my friend. I learned that de-husking the wheat grains took effort and was also boring. I saw that it would be possible for a machine to do the work, so I built one. I was only 12 when I built it. The machine I built was used at the mill for a couple of years.
I also built an invention that changed the world: the telephone. I completed the invention on Mar. 9, 1876. The way the first telephone call happened was that I spilled an ink carton and called for Watson, my helper, & therefore received the first telephone call.
I married Mabel Gardner Hubbard. Our daughter Elsie May Bell was born in Europe because we had to go to Europe to do demonstrations of the telephone. My other children were Robert Bell, Edward Bell & Marian Hubbard Bell.
One of my quotes are “Before anything else, preparation is the key to success.” Some other quotes are "Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun's rays do not burn until brought to a focus" & "The most successful men in the end are those whose success is the result of steady accretion."
